Redeemed and Given Resurrection Power

Scripture: Ex. 13, Job 25, Lk. 14, 1 Cor. 15.

Gospel summary: God redeemed us from slavery to sin, self, and Satan by his mighty power when he sent Jesus to live how we couldn't, die how we should have, and rise so we will too one day. We can die to ourselves each day and live out the Christian life in hope because the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is in us.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I am so weak and frail. Left to myself, I'd never be able to live the Christian life and would remain a slave to my selfish desires until my dying day. But I thank you that you graciously decided to redeem my soul from such a terrible existence, and at the cost of your beloved Son! I thank you God that Jesus wasn't just a good teacher like all the rest who lies in a tomb in the earth, but that you proved your redeeming power by rising him from the dead as no one else has. I thank you that Jesus is alive forevermore and that his life has now been given to me. Even though I will die physically, give me the victory to live in joy-filled hope knowing that I too will rise from the dead and be given a new body one day. I give you all the praise and glory for your redeeming power at work in my life and pray you will help me believe it today in the mundane, hum-drum stuff of life. In your son Jesus I pray, amen.

Key verse: "The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 15:56-57)

Hymn: "Christ is Risen! Hallelujah!" By John Monsell

Stanzas:
Christ is risen! Hallelujah!
Risen our victorious Head!
Sing His praises! Hallelujah!
Christ is risen from the dead.
Gratefully our hearts adore Him
As His light once more appears,
Bowing down in joy before Him,
Rising up from grief and tears.

Refrain:
Christ is risen! Hallelujah!
Risen our victorious Head!
Sing His praises! Hallelujah!
Christ is risen from the dead.

Christ is risen! all the sadness
Of His earthly life is o'er;
Thro' the open gates of gladness
He returns to life once more;
Death and hell before Him bending,
He doth rise, the Victor now;
Angels, on His steps attending,
Glory 'round His wounded brow.

Christ is risen! henceforth never
Death or hell shall us enthral;
We are Christ's, in Him for ever
We have triumphed over all;
All the doubting and dejection
Of our trembling hearts have ceased;
'Tis His day of resurrection,
Let us rise and keep the feast.

Grateful for an Unequaled Wife

I have been listening to the marriage conference held at Southern Seminary recently online at night with Emily and have been reminded that I, as a husband, have not been faithfully cherishing my wife as I ought. I was greatly challenged by C.J. Mahaney's message that stated the importance to have regular scheduled opportunities for uplifting your spouse and giving her a chance to get away from the mother personality for a short time. I was also challenged by listening to Dr. Russell Moore's message about fighting for your marriage like Christ stood against the Enemy for our good out of his steadfast love. I as a husband have been blessed with the most unequaled wife of all. There is no other woman on the planet who can come close to Emily Ruth Wynn and I need not look any further than her. She is always utterly encouraging to me and her wonderful love in my life challenges me to be the man God has called me to be. There are several things that I love about Emily. One of the ...

The Power of The Spirit of God

Today I read: 2 Kings 2, Psalm 48, Daniel 6, and 2 Thessalonians 2. Gospel Summary: Our spiritual strength is not our own, but is a result of the Holy Spirit working in us. When we trust in God's strength, we are immovable and even our greatest foes cannot destroy us. If it were not for the Holy Spirit we would have no strength against the forces of evil that come against us. Prayer: O God, you are my strength and apart from your Holy Spirit in me I would be nothing. Keep me ever pleading like Elisha for a double portion of your Spirit. Spare me today from assuming that I have this power apart from you and keep me ever dependent on the constant filling of your Holy Spirit. Show me that with your Holy Spirit in me there is nothing I face you cannot bring me through. But please teach me that apart from your Spirit I have no chance against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Keep me constant in faith, knowing that I am weak without you, you are God without m...

Nate's On Fire

At Fan Into Flame, which means at my house, Thursday night, God brought us into conversing about evangelism...and Nate, who once said that this sort of evangelism was SO wrong and just self-righteous, stood up and said that he was very wrong about that.....He said that he has found that evangelism fires up the believer to the point of a purpose for everyday of life....he got so into it that he said, "I've gotta go now" and walked out....he came back a few hours later and told an amazing story about how he had gone straight to the KA house (because hes in the frat) and parked his car to talk to folks on campus. Well they were having a party at the house and he got to share with a few of his buddies there about how horrible it is live for this life and how they need to turn to Christ....they all left....he didn't stop....he then went to the UC and talked with some guys skateboarding....one rejected him, the other didn't.....he told the atheist who talked with him t...
