Gospel Summary: Life in Enemy Territory

Today I read: 1 Kings 19, Psalms 40-41, Daniel 1, and 1 Thessalonians 2.

Gospel summary: God delivers his people from those who seek their lives, saving them from destruction to the Rock of refuge, so we his people need not be bound by fear, but bold in faith. We can live in enemy territory here and still be used by God tremendously to serve him.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I praise you for rescuing me from the lion's mouth by crushing the head of the serpent, Satan, by means of the cross. As I walk through life in enemy territory, keep me strong in faith, even when I feel like a sheep among ravenous wolves. Help me always remember that the Good Shepherd will only let me endure a certain amount of hostility from his enemies and will never let them triumph over me forever. When it seems your opponents have all but defeated your people, grant that I may see even them as captives of the great enemy of Adam's race, and know that Satan has already been defeated and his eternal condemnation awaits. As I press on in faith fix my eyes on the Day you will come to my eternal rescue, and grant that your kingdom reign would continually advance here through me. I pray this in your name King Jesus, amen.

Hymn: "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" by Martin Luther

A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and pow'r are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

And tho' this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph thro' us.
The Prince of Darkness grim--
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly pow'rs,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Thro' Him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

The Blessed Generation- Psalm 24

Psalm 24 "A Psalm of David. The earth is the Lord 's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord , strong and mighty, the Lord , mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah" David begins this psalm with a joyful declaration that G...

Delivered from All That Would Destroy Us

Scripture: Psalms 144-145, Mark 3. Gospel summary: God is our great deliverer who comes to the rescue of his children. He has personally come in Jesus of Nazareth to release us from bondage to Satan, reverse the effects of the fall, cleanse us from all sin, and call us to be his own special people who carry his gospel to the world. Prayer: Father in heaven, praise be to your glorious name. You are so worthy, for you alone have come to my rescue and delivered my soul from sin, Satan, and all suffering. Thank you that you didn't sit up in the heavens and expect me to deliver myself, but that you came to deliver me yourself in the person of Jesus. God, I am such a rebel against your will and do not have the power to live for Christ, but I give you glory for saving me, and at great cost to yourself...the shame and suffering of the Son of God at the hands of your enemies. I thank you that Jesus is the stronger Man who binds up Satan the strong man and before whom even the demons tr...

5/18- "Salt & Light- Different on Purpose"- Matthew 5:13-16

Click here to listen to this sermon In this sermon Jesus teaches that his kingdom people are different, then reveals how being different is actually the way he has designed us to impact the tasteless and darkened world we live in. As Christians, we can only fulfill our purpose in life by being "other than" the world in which we live. A Christian who hides their faith or fits in too closely with the world around them is like a tasteless salt or a lamp under a basket. We must shine out the difference Christ has made in us, for it is the greatest way we can impact lost people around us.
