His Trustworthy Word

Today I read: 2 Kings 7, Psalm 55, Daniel 11, and 1 Timothy 4.

Gospel summary: Everything the Lord prophecies concerning the future is accurate and ought to be trusted. Those who refuse to believe that God's Word will come to pass will see it themselves and yet be condemned. Every promise God makes will prove true too and Jesus Christ is the proof that God keeps every promise he makes. All who hope in Christ will indeed find God to be trustworthy, for they will be eternally secure in him.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I know that everything you say is true and I thank you that you will never lie to me in anything you ever say. Help me to trust your Word and flee from the deceitful promises of sin, knowing the same serpent who lied to my forefather lies to me too. Satan tells me that you withhold enjoyable things from me because you do not love me, but teach me to see the earthly and eternal ruin sin brings to my life and learn to hang on your words alone. Thank you for keeping your promises concerning your Son and for accomplishing my redemption through the cross. Grant me the grace to persevere in faith, clinging to your trustworthy Word as my constant companion and support. In Jesus' name, amen.

Hymn: "How Firm a Foundation" by Rippon

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

"In ev'ry condition-- in sickness, in health,
In poverty's vale, or abounding in wealth;
At home or abroad, on the land, on the sea,
As days may demand, shall thy strength ever be.

"Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, I will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.

"When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow,
For I will be with thee, thy trials to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

"When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace all-sufficient shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

"The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I'll never, no never, no never forsake!"

The Word: Fully Human, Fully Divine

The Christmas holiday brings with it questions of both the incarnation and the trustworthiness of its record. Was Jesus just a man claiming to be God or God pretending to be a man? If the Bible was written by men, can we really trust it? In this two-part post, we’ll see the fully human, fully Divine nature of both God’s Word (post 1) and Jesus, God’s Word made flesh (post 2). So this week, lets examine the reliability of the Bible, which bears the record of the God-Man, Jesus. The Word of God is fully human a) Human agents, with their own personalities and backgrounds, wrote the Bible The Scripture was written over more than a millennium-long stretch of time by several dozen authors from various cultural backgrounds. Therefore to consider that God could speak one distinct message for His people through such different people in different times and different places is surely a miracle. Students of the Bible can tell you that the message of God’s Word, whether Genesis or Revel...

Leading God's People to Trust His Word

Today I read: 2 Kings 12, Psalms 62-63, Hosea 3-4, and 2 Timothy 2. Gospel summary: Every leader of God's people must lead them to trust in him alone by rightly handling and teaching his Word. Prayer: God, you are my rock of refuge and you alone are worthy of my trust. Thank you that you have given me your trustworthy Word, because I live in a world full of deceitful promises. Help me today to put all my trust in you alone and not in any man, including myself or my accomplishments. Help me as a spiritual leader to lead your people to build their lives on the solid foundation of Jesus, the Word of God. Help me to teach and preach your Word properly, refusing to feed others on the false manna of my own ideas or creativity. Grant that I may live so by faith in you that others see your trustworthiness in my personal life and learn to trust you themselves. In Jesus' solid name I pray, amen. Memory verse: "Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart be...

5/18- "Salt & Light- Different on Purpose"- Matthew 5:13-16

Click here to listen to this sermon In this sermon Jesus teaches that his kingdom people are different, then reveals how being different is actually the way he has designed us to impact the tasteless and darkened world we live in. As Christians, we can only fulfill our purpose in life by being "other than" the world in which we live. A Christian who hides their faith or fits in too closely with the world around them is like a tasteless salt or a lamp under a basket. We must shine out the difference Christ has made in us, for it is the greatest way we can impact lost people around us.
