Be Strong and Courageous

I was reading Joshua today and noticed that God tells him to be strong and courageous 4 times in 1 chapter and one of those times, He spoke through the very people Joshua was to lead! The third time God straight up tells Joshua, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; don't be afraid nor dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Saying that sounds like God could see Joshua's heart and knew he was afraid, so God is like, "Are you not listening to me? I am with you! Man up!"
I can't tell you how many times in so many different places and situations God has commanded me to go way out of my comfort zone for Him. Every time, I get all scared and think the worst will happen and God has to remind me, just like He did to Joshua, to be strong because He is with me. I mean, its kind of ridiculous to be scared when the very God of ALL creation dwells within you and goes before you and behind you AND with you everywhere you go. Its basically a slap in the face to God because its like telling Him He is not who He says He is. God is so capable of doing things on His own, yet it is so awesome that He chooses to use weak little us to show His glory.
God told Joshua that he was going to use him to finally bring about this plan that He has had going for hundreds of years and so its no wonder Joshua is scared...he doesn't want to screw up what God is doing. God is using us followers of Jesus everyday to fulfill plans that he has had for the people around us for many years. We all act like we want to be used by God and we want to change the world, yet we back down so many times God wants to use us to do just that! Once we learn to embrace God's call and always answer back with a "Yes" like Abraham, God is going to use us to change our world. We shouldn't be focused on the whole world, but the world God has given us, those people we can influence daily. Through the whole body's obedience, God will change the whole world.

The Blessed Generation- Psalm 24

Psalm 24 "A Psalm of David. The earth is the Lord 's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord , strong and mighty, the Lord , mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah" David begins this psalm with a joyful declaration that G...

Delivered from All That Would Destroy Us

Scripture: Psalms 144-145, Mark 3. Gospel summary: God is our great deliverer who comes to the rescue of his children. He has personally come in Jesus of Nazareth to release us from bondage to Satan, reverse the effects of the fall, cleanse us from all sin, and call us to be his own special people who carry his gospel to the world. Prayer: Father in heaven, praise be to your glorious name. You are so worthy, for you alone have come to my rescue and delivered my soul from sin, Satan, and all suffering. Thank you that you didn't sit up in the heavens and expect me to deliver myself, but that you came to deliver me yourself in the person of Jesus. God, I am such a rebel against your will and do not have the power to live for Christ, but I give you glory for saving me, and at great cost to yourself...the shame and suffering of the Son of God at the hands of your enemies. I thank you that Jesus is the stronger Man who binds up Satan the strong man and before whom even the demons tr...

5/18- "Salt & Light- Different on Purpose"- Matthew 5:13-16

Click here to listen to this sermon In this sermon Jesus teaches that his kingdom people are different, then reveals how being different is actually the way he has designed us to impact the tasteless and darkened world we live in. As Christians, we can only fulfill our purpose in life by being "other than" the world in which we live. A Christian who hides their faith or fits in too closely with the world around them is like a tasteless salt or a lamp under a basket. We must shine out the difference Christ has made in us, for it is the greatest way we can impact lost people around us.
