A new year

I write this after having been in Valdosta for only about a week and seeing God work in some amazing ways through our obedience to Him. A couple days ago I got to meet a now good friend of mine, Brad. Brad, Clay, and I had intended on going out witnessing together but it rained on campus, so we said lets go to the mall. For about 2 hours we were outside of the mall talking with people coming and going about the shortness of their life and their need for a Savior to cleanse their sins before a Holy and Just God. At one time, Clay was talking to about 15 guys about Christ and they were all paying attention. Every person I talked to was very interested and wanted to make sure that they were not leaving earth without a Savior. As the mall closed and everyone was leaving, I walked out the door of the mall and a guy behind me was talking with friends about going out partying. God told me to turn around and talk with this guy, so I did. The guy was now by himself and I was able to ask him the question that no one ever thinks, "If you died tonight, are you 100% sure you would be going to Heaven and he said no. He actually said that he new he needed to repent and that he wanted to get more tracts from me to hand to his buddies. So I gave him a few and assured him that God will judge everyone the same way when they die and that if he didn't have purity through Jesus is God's sight, Hell would be his eternal home. The entire night was so great and we each felt that God was beginning to do a work through us that is going to revolutionize Valdosta.
Last night, Brad, Matt, and I decided to go out witnessing again and many people got to hear about the gospel and they were all interested and wanted to talk for long periods of time. I know that it will not always be this easy, but it was great seeing this one day. We got to talk with two guys named Bobby and Ben. Ben claimed Christianity, but was not aware that his sin absolutely made God sick, whereas Bobby was an agnostic who saw so many hypocrites growing up that he didn't want to be one. I assured them both that when they die, God will judge them and they seemed very interested in this and were willing to talk for a long period of time. We then went and talked with a group of guys sitting on the steps and were able to open their eyes to their absolute need for the Savior and their need of true repentance and trust in Jesus. This was a great conversation, but one guy who talked most of the time and claimed to follow Jesus, cussed constantly and didn't bear a lot of the fruit of being saved. He didn't seem to ever understand his filthiness before a pure God. I have prayed that God would send laborers for the harvest who will go out and water those seeds we've planted and I know that God will not let them go untold. I am not sure however how much mercy (of which none deserve) God will give to these guys because they have already heard an absolutely clear message of the gospel and still want to sin.
My passion has grown for this campus and I desire to share as much as I possibly can with the many lost here.

Sabbath or Lord's Day?

What is the Sabbath? Why did God include keeping the Sabbath in the 10 Commandments? Does the Bible call Christians today to keep the Sabbath? Should believers do any work on the Sabbath? Is the Sabbath Saturday or Sunday? Does any of this matter? These are all questions that the Bible answers for us, although there are a variety of different practices among churchgoers. It must first be noted that the keeping of the Sabbath was commanded by God Himself to the people of Israel as they wandered through the wilderness. God wanted His people to so reflect His holy character that He called them to rest from their work as He rested from the work of creation (Ex. 20:8-11). As He often does, God had called Israel to do the opposite of what common sense states. To take a day off of work is seen by many to be contrary to good productivity, but in the Lord's economy, it shows true success. By resting on the Sabbath day, Israel was publicly declaring to God their faith in His ability t...

Leading God's People to Trust His Word

Today I read: 2 Kings 12, Psalms 62-63, Hosea 3-4, and 2 Timothy 2. Gospel summary: Every leader of God's people must lead them to trust in him alone by rightly handling and teaching his Word. Prayer: God, you are my rock of refuge and you alone are worthy of my trust. Thank you that you have given me your trustworthy Word, because I live in a world full of deceitful promises. Help me today to put all my trust in you alone and not in any man, including myself or my accomplishments. Help me as a spiritual leader to lead your people to build their lives on the solid foundation of Jesus, the Word of God. Help me to teach and preach your Word properly, refusing to feed others on the false manna of my own ideas or creativity. Grant that I may live so by faith in you that others see your trustworthiness in my personal life and learn to trust you themselves. In Jesus' solid name I pray, amen. Memory verse: "Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart be...

The Word: Fully Human, Fully Divine

The Christmas holiday brings with it questions of both the incarnation and the trustworthiness of its record. Was Jesus just a man claiming to be God or God pretending to be a man? If the Bible was written by men, can we really trust it? In this two-part post, we’ll see the fully human, fully Divine nature of both God’s Word (post 1) and Jesus, God’s Word made flesh (post 2). So this week, lets examine the reliability of the Bible, which bears the record of the God-Man, Jesus. The Word of God is fully human a) Human agents, with their own personalities and backgrounds, wrote the Bible The Scripture was written over more than a millennium-long stretch of time by several dozen authors from various cultural backgrounds. Therefore to consider that God could speak one distinct message for His people through such different people in different times and different places is surely a miracle. Students of the Bible can tell you that the message of God’s Word, whether Genesis or Revel...
