Jesus' Blood, Only Refuge for Sinners Before a Holy God

Today I read: 2 Chronicles 10, Psalm 119:49-72, Zephaniah 2, and Revelation 1.

Gospel summary: God is blazing in holiness and the only proper response when we behold his glory is to humble ourselves in the dust and find refuge in the shed blood of Jesus, for that is God's only avenue of cleansing us from the sins that cry out for his justice. Only the heart dipped in Jesus' blood has confident access into God's presence because that is the only heart that longs to obey God's commands.

Prayer: Gracious Father in heaven, your awesome majesty demands perfect obedience and holiness, yet your perfect law leaves me utterly condemned because of my sins. I am all sin and you are all holiness, so the only hope I have is that you somehow meet the demands of your law on my behalf and somehow punish all my sins at the same time while still allowing me to live, then applying that amazing work of redemption to my heart so that I may be accepted in your presence. O God, you have gloriously done just such a redeeming work in Christ for a rebellious sinner like me. I praise your awesome name for cleansing me, punishing my sins on Jesus, crediting to me all his perfect righteousness, and then applying such a work to my heart by the regenerating work of your Holy Spirit. Now as I bow before your glorious majesty, I come as a child to a loving Father and my pleas for a life that conforms to your ways are met with grace and power to do just that. May I never forget the wonder of this gospel, but live in constant awe that such a just and holy Sovereign is now my gracious and compassionate Father. Glory be to your name forever, O Lord. I come by the blood of Jesus, amen.

Key verses: "To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”...The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades." (‭Revelation‬ ‭1‬:‭5b-8, 14-18‬ ESV)

Hymn: "Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus!" by John Bakewell

Stanzas:
Hail, Thou once despised Jesus!
Hail, Thou Galilean King!
Thou didst suffer to release us;
Thou didst free salvation bring.
Hail, Thou agonizing Saviour,
Bearer of our sin and shame!
By Thy merits we find favor;
Life is given through Thy name.

Paschal Lamb, by God appointed,
All our sins on Thee were laid;
By almighty love anointed,
Thou hast full atonement made:
All Thy people are forgiven
Through the virtue of Thy blood;
Opened is the gate of heaven,
Peace is made 'twixt man and God.

Jesus, hail! enthroned in glory,
There forever to abide;
All the heav'nly hosts adore Thee,
Seated at Thy Father's side.
There for sinners Thou art pleading,
There Thou dost our place prepare,
Ever for us interceding,
Till in glory we appear.

Worship, hon or, pow'r and blessing
Thou art worthy to receive;
Loudest praises, without ceasing,
Meet it is for us to give.
Help, ye bright angelic spirits,
Bring your sweetest, noblest lays;
Help to sing our Saviour's merits,
Help to chant Immanuel's praise!

The Blessed Generation- Psalm 24

Psalm 24 "A Psalm of David. The earth is the Lord 's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord , strong and mighty, the Lord , mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah" David begins this psalm with a joyful declaration that G...

Delivered from All That Would Destroy Us

Scripture: Psalms 144-145, Mark 3. Gospel summary: God is our great deliverer who comes to the rescue of his children. He has personally come in Jesus of Nazareth to release us from bondage to Satan, reverse the effects of the fall, cleanse us from all sin, and call us to be his own special people who carry his gospel to the world. Prayer: Father in heaven, praise be to your glorious name. You are so worthy, for you alone have come to my rescue and delivered my soul from sin, Satan, and all suffering. Thank you that you didn't sit up in the heavens and expect me to deliver myself, but that you came to deliver me yourself in the person of Jesus. God, I am such a rebel against your will and do not have the power to live for Christ, but I give you glory for saving me, and at great cost to yourself...the shame and suffering of the Son of God at the hands of your enemies. I thank you that Jesus is the stronger Man who binds up Satan the strong man and before whom even the demons tr...

5/18- "Salt & Light- Different on Purpose"- Matthew 5:13-16

Click here to listen to this sermon In this sermon Jesus teaches that his kingdom people are different, then reveals how being different is actually the way he has designed us to impact the tasteless and darkened world we live in. As Christians, we can only fulfill our purpose in life by being "other than" the world in which we live. A Christian who hides their faith or fits in too closely with the world around them is like a tasteless salt or a lamp under a basket. We must shine out the difference Christ has made in us, for it is the greatest way we can impact lost people around us.
